Intact Special School Trust is a charitable organisation registered with Government of Tamilnadu that accomplishes to be a centre for excellence for persons with intellectual disabilities. Intact Special School Trust adapts systematic and sequential training approach in a holistic way in preparing and empowering the target group to reach their fullest potential. Intact Special School Trust aims to attain an inclusive ecosphere that accepts differences and rights for persons with disabilities.

ISST adopts a holistic approach to empower persons with intellectual disabilities through sustained and progressive training according to the competence of individual beneficiary through early invention – special schooling – vocational assessment – Self Advocacy training – Supported Decision Making – Independent living training – Individualised Transitional Plan.

Every human is unique and different and the world is diverse in nature. World has place, space and role for every human. We should stop labelling humans on basis of so called `norms`. Instead, should learn to notice, accept and value every humans.
About the founder
‘Social work starts at home’. The founder Karuna Thomas is a teacher, social worker, special parent and a Special Educator. The idea of starting a Special School and later incorporating this into organisation came from personal need. She accepted this call and dedicated rest of her life for empowering the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities. She holds bachelors (B.A) and professional (B.Ed) and a Senior Diploma in Special Education with specialisation in mental retardation (DSE MR). After retiring as Principal now she serves as Manager & Correspondent of the school. ISST is based on the success story of changing stumbling blocks into stepping stones.

Intact Special School embarked upon this mission of empowering persons with intellectual disabilities in the year 1995 by adapting systematic and sequential training approach: special education with residential facilities, employment oriented training, employability and independent living. The organisation is based on our success story of changing stumbling blocks into stepping stones. In 2009 the special school was incorporated as Intact Special School Trust.
